Frequently Asked Questions

  • In a typical primary care practice, your healthcare provider is reimbursed by an insurance company only when he sees you.   A great deal of time is spent satisfying the requirements of the insurance company.

With Direct Primary Care, the membership fee replaces the reimbursement from third parties.  By removing the burdens of insurance, Dr. Cozart is free to focus on patient care and offer services such as extended appointment times, communication through email, phone, or text, and the ability to diagnose and treat without the need for an office visit. He can also spend adequate time with patients especially those who have complicated health histories. He can have real, unrushed conversations and help patients try to determine the root causes of their health issues.

The fee is also predictable for the patient and is often far less than annual medical costs of copays and deductibles.

  • We accept all patients—12 years and up— regardless of their insurance plan. With the DPC model, we contract directly with the patient to put them (not an insurance company) in charge of their health. By cutting out the middlemen, we keep costs low and spend more quality time with our patients. Also, there are no co-pays or deductibles with DPC.

We can work with any insurance, from private insurance to Medicare for ordering outside labs, imaging, medications, and referrals to specialists. Your DPC membership will complement your insurance plan and help you to get the greatest value out of your health care dollars.

  • One of the best benefits of the direct primary care model is reestablishing the relationship between patients and their health care provider. By getting to know your doctor when you're healthy, you become a team working proactively to keep you healthy, happy, free of preventable diseases, and living a good lifestyle. Dr. Cozart can help you try to avoid health problems you may be predisposed to based on family history. You have time to focus on preventative screening and enact healthy lifestyle changes to keep you healthy. If you get sick or develop a chronic condition requiring more care, you already have a partnership with a doctor you trust to help manage your health problems. A great primary care doctor can take care of you throughout the course of your life.

  • Absolutely! Direct primary care is ideal for uninsured patients. We can offer comprehensive primary care that can manage 90% of health issues with transparent, up-front prices. There will not be any surprise bills in the mail. We can also help you save money on labs, medications, and imaging when needed.

Insurance can be helpful in catastrophic situations, and we recommend that you have health insurance for emergencies—such as major injuries, surgeries, hospitalizations, or unexpected illness like cancer.

  • Your Direct Primary Care membership allows you to have an optimal primary care experience. DPC doctors keep their patient numbers smaller than traditional primary care practices. This means it is easier to get an appointment and Dr. Cozart has more time to focus on your needs.

Your membership fee covers a wealth of primary care services at our office, and you never pay a co-pay. It covers all your office visits: annual health checks, chronic illness management, acute illnesses, and urgent care. It also allows you to communicate directly with Dr. Cozart when you need him and even schedule virtual visits when applicable.

Dr. Cozart is an internal medicine physician trained to take care of about 90% of your healthcare needs. He can perform many procedures in-office instead of referring you to a specialist. When he was in an insurance-based office he had to send patients to specialists much more frequently simply because he didn’t have the time to take care of them. (This is one of the many reasons he joined DPC and one of the reasons he thinks you should as well.)

In DPC, we can also be more flexible. Sometimes, you may just have a small concern or question that doesn’t really require an office visit. In these instances, you can reach your doctor by phone, text, or email!

If you have a doctor who you love, keep them. If you are tired of long waits to see your doctor, pre-authorizations, co-pays, and surprise medical bills when insurance denies your claim, you’ve come to the right place.  Say good-bye to barriers, inefficiencies, impersonal care, crowded waiting rooms, and rushed visits. Experience access to your doctor, enhanced efficiency, seamless communication, and complete price transparency. Restore sanity to healthcare!

  • You can still join! You will need to sign a waiver declaring that neither you nor your provider will directly bill Medicare for our services. However, Medicare can still cover any outside laboratory testing, imaging, medications, specialty referrals, or hospitalizations prescribed by us.

  • Yes! For a flat monthly fee per employee, we can provide unlimited primary care to your employees. This is a great option for employers who utilize a self-funded plan, do not provide health insurance, or those looking to offer an additional benefit to employees with a high deductible or catastrophic plan. Interested businesses should contact us directly at info@thrivedpc.org.

  • “Regular” labs performed at your annual physical are done in our office and are included in your membership. If you need additional lab work, we have pre-arranged cash prices. Alternatively, we can send orders to the facility of your choice.

  • While we provide comprehensive primary care, if you require a specialist, we will coordinate your care and refer you to trusted specialists. We can also work with your specialist to ensure cohesive care.

  • While some people do use the terms interchangeably, direct primary care and concierge medicine are not the same; however, they do share similarities. Both models prioritize direct patient-physician relationships and often require a fee outside of traditional insurance. The main difference is that concierge medicine often still bills insurance for individual services and may charge an additional retainer fee for enhanced access and services.

  • Thrive does not replace insurance and we encourage everyone to have catastrophic health coverage. Having a catastrophic plan provides a financial safety net should hospitalization, surgery, or referral to specialists be necessary. There are many options for catastrophic coverage: high deductible health insurance plans, major medical insurance plans, or one of the many healthcare sharing plans (i.e. Sedera, Medi-share, Samaritan Ministries, etc.).

Consult your insurance provider or we can direct you to an insurance agent who can help you choose a plan that works best with our medical model and your specific needs.

Regardless of your situation—whether you have insurance or not—we want to take care of YOU!
